4 /5 Christopher Wu: Bun Bun Bakery is a hyped bánh mì spot, often said to do the best bánh mì in Springvale, so I had to try it out.
Out of Bun Bun and Tabac, this was definitely the better option overall for me. The bread was soft with a slight crunch, which I liked. However, the pork could have used more crispy bits. It lacked that fresh crunch factor and tasted like it had been sitting for a while. The portion of pork was also a bit light.
The pâté and butter were quite mild and not very potent. They felt masked within the overall sandwich, whereas I usually prefer a stronger pâté and butter to bring more flavour. One thing I did like was the caramelised onions, which were a bit different from most places and added a nice touch.
Overall, for $10 for a crispy pork bánh mì, it is decent value. I would not travel out of my way for it again, but it was the better option between the two spots I tried.
