3 /5 Jessica Porcellana: I’m leaving a three-star review because I had a very mixed experience.
I ordered two chicken rolls, a large chips, ten nuggets, four fried dim sims, a large gravy, and a chocolate milkshake. The milkshake was the highlight — really delicious with a strong chocolate flavour. The gravy was also very nice, rich and tasty. The staff were friendly, which I appreciated.
However, the wait time was around 30 minutes, which feels far too long for mostly fried items and pre-prepared dim sims. Don’t go here if you’re in a rush, because the wait is definitely on the longer side.
The biggest issue was the oil quality. The chips were very oily and tasted strongly of old oil. I used to work in a chicken shop, so I know the flavour well, and it became overwhelming after a few bites. The nuggets had the same issue — they’re a great size with a thick piece of chicken inside, but the old-oil taste really took away from them. Because of this, we didn’t end up eating everything as a family.
The dim sims were fine, as expected from ones kept in a warmer.
The chicken rolls were also unexpected. The board shows what looks like roast chicken rolls, but they are actually fried chicken rolls. I don’t mind fried chicken, but some people may feel misled. The roll itself was nice — fresh bread, tasty chicken and a good amount of mayo — though some lettuce or freshness would improve it.
Given that I spent over $50 on the meal, it was disappointing that the fryer oil let the food down so much. There’s definitely potential here, but changing the oil more regularly and reducing wait times would make a noticeable improvement.
