5 /5 Nick Gauci: I’ve walked past this place a few times, waiting for it to officially open (it was open for takeaway only for a few weeks). I finally dined in tonight with a friend, and it was absolutely worth the wait.
We ordered the Onion Bhaji, Tandoori Mushroom and Tandoori Chicken Tikka for our entrées. Hungry eyes definitely got the better of us! The first thing we noticed was how huge the servings were, with very generous portions. I ended up taking half home. If you’re dining with four people, three entrées would be perfect. For two, I’d honestly recommend sharing just one. The flavours were delicious, although I personally would have preferred the mushrooms cooked a little longer, but overall everything was very tasty.
For our mains, we tried the Hyderabadi Chicken Masala and Asli Desi Butter Chicken. The portion sizes were just right, with a fair amount of chicken in each dish. My friend and I both agreed that the chef could have gone a little lighter on the salt, but that’s purely a personal preference. Next time, I’ll simply ask for less salt. Flavour-wise, both dishes were great, but if I had to recommend one, it would definitely be the Hyderabadi Chicken Masala. We also ordered two Garlic Naans, which again were huge, each cut into eight generous slices. Next time, one naan to share will be more than enough.
I also had a Mango Lassi, which was delicious.
The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the interior is beautifully done. You can tell they’ve invested a lot into the fit-out. Even the cutlery felt first class, and the whole experience reminded me of dining in the Emirates Lounge.
Prices are very reasonable, and considering the generous portion sizes, you’re definitely getting great value for money. It will be interesting to see if the serving sizes stay this big in six months, as most people will be surprised by how large they are.
I’ll definitely be back, and if anyone asks me for an Indian restaurant recommendation in Moonee Ponds, this place will be at the top of my list.
Thank you.
