Kate 64 I’m back in this area after many years away, trying out all the cafes to find my ‘locals’; I’m a writer, so spend a lot of time in cafes. Eltham has a number of great places including Third Chapter, which I’ve now visited twice and I’m impressed. Last weekend it was absolutely pouring, I had a dripping wet umbrella, and still I was warmly welcomed and assisted with where to put it. My preference for table was accommodated. The coffee was super quick and good and not too hot (bogans love extra hot but it’s not how you drink real coffee). The food came much quicker than I took choosing it - great menu. The ambience was lovely and the crowd was a real mix. I was very happy with my fritters on both visits. But what really impressed me here was the service; very warm, efficient and brisk and water on the table asap without asking. That first welcome is so important in hospitality. The vibe is relaxed but with beautiful decor - the woods are gorgeous, and the people watching is second to none. The beautiful wing back armchairs make it awesome for couples or a catch up with a buddy. A fab find for me which I highly recommend. Make sure you have their pumpkin sourdough - it’s really special. The name of the restaurant has a backstory and it tells you you’re in good hands. Experience + commitment really shines.
