Christopher Wu Scopri is an Italian-style dining spot I have always wanted to try, but it is usually booked out early. Finally managed to get in, and overall it was a very enjoyable experience.
Everything we had was simple but delicious. We started with the scallops and the quail. Both were unique and well executed in their own ways. The quail was wrapped in pancetta, and the scallop came with a very umami-forward sauce. When we asked to share dishes, they were more than happy to split everything for us, which made the experience even better and easier to enjoy without having to cut things ourselves.
The bread was nice, and the kingfish carpaccio was decent. It was a fairly standard kingfish dish, but still good.
For mains, we had the risotto, which I thought was perfectly balanced with a small amount of seafood. It was cooked as well as you could ask for. The agnolotti was probably my favourite dish of the night. The small pasta pockets filled with meat were excellent. One thing that really stood out at Scopri was how quickly the food came out. Everything arrived piping hot straight from the kitchen, which made a big difference.
The only dish I probably should not have ordered was the steak. The quality looked good, but for me the flavour was lacking and the texture was a bit chewy. It felt more like something you could buy from a butcher and cook at home, without much of a chef’s touch. That said, it is an Italian pasta-focused restaurant, so I was not expecting everything to be perfect.
We also ordered dessert, which was very good and clearly handmade by a skilled pastry chef.
Service was a bit hit and miss at times, but overall a solid experience with some standout dishes, especially the pasta.
