5 /5 Holiday li: Shyun in Carnegie is honestly one of the best value Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. The sashimi quality is excellent — super fresh and beautifully prepared. Their set meals are also great value, and most importantly, everything tastes amazing. I come to this Shyun in Carnegie a few times every month — it’s seriously that good. The ingredients are always fresh, and the portions are very generous. That big bowl of seafood don is incredibly satisfying — I always leave absolutely full. For around $30–$40 per person, it’s such great value for what you get. Besides the seafood bowls, their lunch specials are fantastic too. The curry rice and curry udon are both delicious, and many lunch sets are only in the mid-teens — which is hard to beat these days. There’s also another Shyun just across the road on the same street, which focuses more on grilled dishes. Both have their own style and are equally tasty. Highly recommend!

5 /5 Yuki KOIZUMI: This restaurant is one we tried visiting twice before without a booking, but both times we gave up because the wait was just too long. Today, we finally went in with a reservation. In short, it was easily one of the best meals we’ve had since moving to Australia—on par with the quality and flavour of restaurants and izakayas in Japan. The calm, relaxed atmosphere left a great impression too, and the cleanliness of the restroom was a nice bonus. When we checked out, I asked the staff at the counter, and they told me the owner is Japanese. That made me wonder—maybe the attention to detail and quality we noticed comes from a personal commitment to those standards. It’s also close to our neighbourhood, so another visit is practically guaranteed.

5 /5 Jimmy: I go here a lot and it always impresses me. The largest menu I have ever seen. So much to choose that it could satisfy everyone from a picky eater to a more seasoned traveler. They also have two other restaurants on koornang road that I have also been to. The staff are always inviting and welcome you in with a smile. I would recommend the bento box, the wagyu nigiri and the pork gyoza. This could be my favourite restaurant in Australia.

5 /5 Teck Hooi Gan: Authentic Japanese food, fresh seafood and decent portion too. Only issue (again) is under staffs. Need to wait for a while, but they are very friendly and professional, trying their best to serve everyone. My personal favorite is the pork Katsu. Good choice of Japanese food if you are nearby Monash.

5 /5 Helen Hatz: Mouthwatering Japanese food in Carnegie. Sushi rolls are delectable. The ingredients are always fresh. The prawn tempura rolls are my family’s favourite. Sashimi is just as good. High quality salmon and tuna. Also perfectly presented. The teriyaki don rice dish is another family favourite. The sauce is incredible. And if you’re a fan of caramelised onions, you’ll devour the wagyu don rice dish. Love Shyun so much. It’s one of those restaurants you can always rely on to be outstanding.
