5 /5 Scott Smith: Today my partner and I visited Taste Galore Charcoal Chicken for lunch. After recently moving to Ormond, from the city, we thought we’d give some of the local shops a try. We met Lin, the very friendly owner who ran us through the menu options and combos. Although all of them sound great we already had our minds made up after reading some google reviews, going with the Burger with the lot combo and added pineapple. This was $15.90 + $1 for the pineapple which included chips & a can of drink. The burger was by far the biggest standard burger I ever had by a long way. And to be honest I couldn’t finish it. The beef patty looked to be 400+ grams, It was bigger than a pounder patty and would have been almost 3 time thicker. It was a monster! The burger came with all the fillings that makes a traditional burger an all-time staple. We also received chips which were standard fish and chip style chips, sprinkled with chicken salt. One serve would have been enough for both of us.
The Verdict:
Melbourne’s biggest standard burger wouldn’t cut it, I’m going to say it’s easily Victoria’s if not Australia’s biggest standard size burger. We ate it in store, and it was presented on timber boards with retro American style diner paper. The burger was fantastic, It ticked all the boxes, however, getting your mouth around this was a little tricky. My partner cut her burger in half and that was more than enough for her. I will note that the burger was super juicy, so you wouldn’t want to drive to far from the shop as the burger could start to fall apart and get very messy. I found the chips to be a little under done, but I do prefer my chips a little crispier, so I’m not going to take any points off Lin for that as I should have asked her to cook them that way.
Scores out of 10
My value for money: 20/10, and you could easily get 2 meals for cost one.
Burger Taste: 9/10
Burger Size: 15/10. It’s that big, and probably a little to big, that just how big it is.
Chips Taste: 7.5/10
Chips Serving Size: 15/10 again this was a big serving.
This shop is a little gem and should have people queuing up out the door, but I’m guessing people seem to be judging this place by it’s outside façade instead of sampling their produce.
Lin, I can confidently let you know we have added Taste Galore Charcoal Chicken straight to our shortlist of winning places to eat.
