5 /5 Antony Royer: Sovereign Hill is a must visit. Gives you a first hand glimpse of lives of people working in mines, their hopes, hardships, success and failure. Everything was interesting from start till end. Make sure you pickup the map from the ticket counter. Book for photographs in traditional costume (paid) and then proceed towards your quest. Our favourite was the candy making process as well as guided tour to visit the Mine (paid) deep below. You can spend entire day here as there is so much to learn, observe and understand. I was amazed to see how they managed to setup huge machinery in a remote area. Horse carriage ride (paid) is also available and there is a huge queue for it. You can buy lot of souvenirs , candies and stuff like clocks. There are miners, engine room, chemist, post office, bank, laundry, butcher, church replicas to view. Cafe and food is easily available throughout each lane. Finding parking was a tough job, so make sure you reach early. Wear a pair of boot that can handle mud as shoes get dirty by the end of day. It was a memorable experience. Highly recommended if you are visiting Ballarat.
