3 /5 Jun Cowan: I wanted a great steak dinner, and Astado seemed like a perfect choice. I went with what the waiter recommended. First the pan de chapa (Argentinan flat bread) and beed tongue on skewer which were both excellent. For the main, Entrana, grain fed wagyu, recommend again by the waiter. I thought at $60, you cant go wrong, but I was hugely disappointed. The beef itself was full of gristles and just could not possibly be wagyu. It was like the cheapest $10 steak from Coles! The rule of thumb I use is if I can make a better dinner, then it fails as a restaurant.
The restaurant itself was great. The waiters were great and the service also, I cannot complain, but I was let down by the main event. It was let down not by the chef, but cheap basic ingredients. Obviously thats how they increase the profit margins, hoping that ambiance would fool the customer.
I complained and the potatoes ($16) I didnt have to pay for, but this was a huge let down. The bill came to. $123 with wine. Needless to say, I wont be back for a $10 supermarket steak at that price!
