Regaleatsmelb The hype for this place should be real. Not sure if it was the coteletta/crispy crochette di patate combo, Chef Joey D’s magic chilli crisp or that fried carbonara pesto perfection but I loved every bite of everything here.
If you love proper Italian comfort food with razor-sharp attention to technique, it really coglie nel segno (hits the spot).
You can really taste the difference in their house-made schiacciata which stays strong and welcomes sauce and big fillings alike. I added my potato cake to my panino and it really was the ultimate sandwich.
And let’s not forget the dolci counter, tempting you all day, every day, with true homemade panna cotta with a strong vanilla bean flavour and that bombolone limone custard which was insanely good.
And the Tonno Toastie was shockingly authentic too with its fresh lettuce, tomato and pesto aioli/olive tapenade combo that hit just right. I was honestly surprised that the sauces did not ruin the bread - it just soaked them up like a delicious sponge.
And then there’s the Instagrammable Supplì Carbonara which was true carbonarancini bliss! And that pesto sauce combo was a game changer.
But the real showstopper will always be Chef Joey D’s chilli crisp! Because its the condiment that’ll ruin every other chilli crisp for you, forever!
