Amaru - VIC

Tatiana Barraza Arellano Last Saturday was our second visit to Amaru and as the first time that we visited we were highly impressed with all the food served. Amaru serves a set menu using Australian ingredients as signature and some flavours are very delicate and unique. The first dishes were around 7-8 finger food bites. All food felt very fresh and pleasant to palate where I highly enjoyed the carrot, asparagus and Australian bluefin tuna with desert lime and shiso. After these amuse-bouches we had a wonderful mud crab, white asparagus and caviar, served on top with the last end of season white truffles. This dish was upgrade for 80 dollars aprox with the white truffles. We did not hesitate to upgrade it as everything would go better if you add truffles to your dish. After this amazing dish served we were pleased again by the Western Australia marron, clam and sea lettuce mussel. On this dish you will feel all the earthy savoury flavour of marron with the saltiness of clams. I loved it. At our last main dish we had Blackmore Wagyu with macadamia miso, ox tongue and mustard. The wagyu was cooked to perfection, a buttery flavour meat which it melted on your tongue. After savoury dishes we had some desserts, I am not a big fan of sweets but I would like to highlight the rhubarb/rosella and chocolate, mandarin and Geraldton wax bonbon. All dishes were pairing with a non alcoholic drinks, most of them (if I am not wrong, maybe all of them) fermented on the venue, were very well balanced to all dishes flavours. It was also a very special celebration as on the 26th was my husband birthday. They complimented him and he also received a special dessert with a candle. I always appreciate this kind of gestures :) Overall we had an incredible night at Amaru last Saturday! We highly enjoyed all food and drinks served and we would like to compliment Marcus service as he was very attentive and professional. Thank you.

Zia Rinas Cucina - VIC

elisa mets rinas made me feel like I was back in Italy. this is a home-style italian trattoria serving up seasonal, traditional dishes sourced from the most impressive local suppliers (think the chef’s dad’s garden and western port bay fish caught the day prior). it feels immedately cosy, welcoming and warm. you’ll be greeted by joyous and passionate waitstaff who will do their absolute best to make sure you enjoy every moment of your visit. you won’t be given a menu, but rather told to simply trust the chef will bring you a delicious 4 course (alternatively - you can leave a note on your booking of a preferred main you might prefer, the table next to us had duck). they tailored their cocktails just to our liking. how cute is that mini campari!? we were welcomed with a spread of antipasti - housemade crusty bread, cured meat, peppers and white bean, mussels on a prickly pear sugo, and beautifully fried zucchini. second course, came the bone marrow casarecce. rich and fatty but not at all heavy. the pasta had the most perfect grainy bite. we filled up on with fresh, lightly fried flathead, paired with an eggplant caponata and the most HEAVENLY potatoes I have ever put into my mouth. i don’t think I can ever enjoy another potato. not unless its cooked three times and salted like this. WOW. lastly, a crunchy bite of zesty ricotta canoli and a generous housemate limoncello (on the house - that’s rare in melb!). at $75pp, I thought this was quite fulfilling. we felt welcomed into Zia’s home here and left with very satisfied bellies and hearts.

Victor Churchill - VIC

Crystal Y We dined at the Bar for dinner and loved the whole night. The Butchery transforms into a moody, sexy space which was a great surprise! Service was fun, warm and friendly without being overbearing. For starters we went with the Steak Tartare (comes with an adorable bottle of Tabasco), this was so well balanced, the house made chips were a big YUM! The grilled octopus was tender, and had the perfect amount of resistance when bitten into. The Prawns - omg do not SKIP these and definitely clean up the sauce with the sourdough. For mains we went with the fish of the day (Murray Cod) and the Rangers Valley Sirloin (red wine sauce) - paired with Paris Mash and Charcoal Mushrooms. Highly recommend the red wine sauce, it’s also available to purchase to enjoy at home! Overall a beautiful venue, great staff and even better food. Can’t wait to come back!

Bansho - VIC

Angie Bee Be prepared to be blown away by impeccable food, presentation and service. Bansho completely surpassed my expectations. The food was SO incredibly tasty and delicious, but also fresh and delicate and presented so beautifully. I pretty much cant fault a thing (other than the fact they dont have regular Coca Cola). The service was great and friendly and everything was efficient. I highly recommend the Salmon Tartare; it was scrumptious. And as delicious as the trout was, it was the Miso Veloute and Dill Oil that stole the show. That sauce was so incredible that I could have just ordered it in a bowl and drunk it with a straw. For dessert I had Pavlova, and it was phenomenal. Inside is a clean, fresh and refreshing lemon sorbet with a rhubarb base with citrus segments in it. It was almost too pretty to eat, but I had to get that in my belly as I couldnt wait to try. Be warned though, that this is a bit of a pricey restaurant, and not the kind of place you go to on a Tuesday night for kicks (unless youre wealthy). Unsure if the prices were just a tad too high, or the portions were a tad too little, but I could have eaten more. Youre probably not going to roll out of there super full. With that all said, I am so very glad I found Bansho. If you love Japanese, and want to try upscale, fine dining, this is the place to go. Its my absolute new fave and I cannot wait for another special occasion just to come back here again.

Pony - VIC

Cheng Jie Besides the delicious food, Sylvester is also one of the main reasons I would come back to this restaurant. He was warm and humorous, making us feel relaxed and welcome from the moment we were seated until the end of the meal. His attentive and professional service truly made our dinner even more enjoyable. The food was excellent as well. The bread and zucchini chips as appetizers left a strong impression on me — perfectly crispy and not greasy at all. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the beef was cooked just right. You can really tell that care goes into every dish. I’ll definitely be back to try more items on the menu. The ambiance is elegant and refined, making it a great place for gathering with friends or simply enjoying a nice evening out. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely return.
