3 /5 Knackersnathan: My daughter and I visited the café on Sunday around 11am for breakfast. Parking was a challenge, though that’s no fault of the venue.
The café occupies the old Jewel Supermarket site (yes, showing my age here), so the space is impressively large and open. We sat inside but asked to move due to the sun streaming in—again, not the café’s doing. Staff were accommodating and helped us relocate without issue. We ended up on the north side, where I couldn’t help but notice a dirty window and a few dead flies on the ledge. If I were running a food establishment, I’d make sure those details were pristine.
Service was brisk but not rushed. Our waiter was friendly, though her English was limited, which may explain what happened next.
I ordered poached eggs on multigrain (specifically not sourdough), with Hollandaise and smoked salmon. My daughter chose the Pulled Pork Benedict, which includes slow-cooked pulled pork, crispy hash brown, two poached eggs, Hollandaise, and apple slaw. I had a mug of extra-hot latte, and she opted for the pink grapefruit lemonade. Drinks were ok but latte not extra hot.
However, our meals arrived with the breads swapped: mine on sourdough, hers on multigrain. I also had to ask about the missing hash brown in her dish, only to be told it was “on the bottom.” It wasn’t. I mentioned it again at the register, but there was no acknowledgment, no apology, and no gesture of goodwill— not even a small discount. It’s not about the money; a simple recognition of the oversight would’ve gone a long way.
My smoked salmon was ok but had strange aftertaste.
$54 - thats an ok price, but we wont return. I note there are plenty of other good reviews, this was just our experience on the day.
