4 /5 Aka: Quite nice cafe, the fried prawns were on point and so is the katsu, but wish i got more katsu then the 2 butt ends with the cheese option. Noodle dish was very interesting in a good way would get again. Unfortunately no options for sushi at this time it is all marked off the menu though it says coming soon. I will come back to have a shot at the sushi.

The food was beautifully presented and incredibly delicious, with every dish prepared with great care and attention to detail. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. On top of that, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive, providing outstanding service throughout. I’m more than happy to give this place a well-deserved 5-star rating. Highly recommended!

5 /5 Warren Trevor “tangowhisky37”: Weve been frequenting our local Japanese outlet in Altona North for a while and only just happened to come across Tonari. We made a booking for a Sunday evening and dined in. The decor could be called minimalist, is well lit and makes a great setting for individual, group or family dining. We ordered and food arrived in under 15mins, the place wasnt overly crowded or noisy. Also nice to see that they have some good options for vegetarians. Both preparation and presentation were top notch. Tonari offers a range of curries, salads with traditional sake to wipe it all down with. We love the food, the prices are affordable. If you are around this side of town, looking for some great Japanese food then Tonari is a must visit.

5 /5 El Tote: Great Japanese restaurant, staff is Japanese too, with the typical Japanese politeness, which was a plus. The food was great, the value too, all the classics of an Izakaya style. They have a descent sake selection for a reasonable price as well as wine and beers. Will come back for sure, my new favourite local.
