1 /5 Katie: I was a regular customer for over 10 years, back when it was run by the older couple. Since the change in ownership, the quality and atmosphere have dropped significantly.
I ordered two pho for dine-in and one rice paper roll for takeaway at the same time. After more than 20 mins when I finished my meal and at the counter paying, the rice paper roll still wasn’t ready but they charged me for it.
Upon checking, I was then told they had missed the order and asked me to wait another 5 minutes for them to make it from scratch. I explained that I needed to rush to the hospital to see my newborn son to match his feeding time, so I couldn’t wait and asked to cancel that item since they had missed it. The cashier was polite and understanding and agreed to cancel it.
However, the lady in the kitchen (who I believe is the owner) started yelling and screaming, throwing things in the kitchen, and then came out shouting in Vietnamese, directing her anger at both the staff and us over the cancelled order. I was also being yelled at, despite the delay being entirely due to their mistake. While she acknowledged it was her staff’s fault (she claimed she wasn’t told about the order - despite she was the one who put the order through for us), that is still a management issue, AND absolutely not a reason to lash out at customers.
What made it worse was that during our meal, we could already hear her yelling aggressively at other staff in the kitchen and you can hear it at the dining area. It was very uncomfortable to witness, and I genuinely feel sorry for her employees being treated that way.
The food itself is no longer what it used to be. The pho soup tasted bland and watery compared to before, and the rice noodles are noticeably different. It’s a big contrast to how good it used to be.
I believe the high star ratings reflect the previous owners, not the current management. I really miss the old Pho Tam.
Both the food and the warmth are gone.
